Features the early singles as the Scarlet's and their entire collection of chart hits as The Five Satins. Of course this includes, 'In the Still of the Night', which is regularly voted as the greatest Doo Wop song ever/5(14).

The 16th volume in Collectables' series of discs dedicated to the dominant themes and motifs of doo wop's romantic lexicon (angels, moonlight, stars), this one, themed around the word "night," is certainly pleasant enough, but aside from the first track, the Five Satins' timeless "In the Still of the Nite," and the 10th and final one, the Imaginations' bouncing and lovely "Goodnight Baby.

5. In fact, some of them previously appeared on best-of doo wop comps on the same label, Varese Sarabande (on 25 All-Time Doo Wop Hits and 25 More All-Time Doo Wop Hits). On its own terms, however, it's a very solid (and very long) single-disc compilation of first-rate doo wop ballads, and an excellent listen to the music's slower and more.

These are not the best 25 all-time doo wop hits -- whether because of licensing restrictions or not, there's no "The Great Pretender," "Tears on My Pillow," "Maybe," "Searchin'," "Gee," "Stay," "A Teenager in Love," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," "Book of Love," "Silhouettes," or numerous other smashes that might be reasonably championed as among the cream of the cream.
